.- The movie star Eduardo Verástegui has recorded a special video message to encourage Hispanic voters in the U.S. to put an end to abortion and to expose the radical abortion position of presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Verástegui, who is perhaps best known in the U.S. for his pro-life film “Bella,” presents his challenge to Latino voters by calling attention to the fact that most abortion clinics are located in Hispanic neighborhoods and that the Spanish media is saturated with pro-abortion advertising.

“Abortion is not only a lucrative industry; it is also used by people who are racist as a means to eliminate our people, since they consider us to be a threat to democracy in this country,” Verástegui asserts.

Senator Joseph Biden displays “flawed moral reasoning” on abortion, Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput says, responding to a weekend statement by the vice-presidential candidate.

In the second statement in two weeks responding to comments made by Catholic politicians on the Sunday morning program, Archbishop Charles Chaput and Auxiliary Bishop James Conley of Denver are telling politicians “who describe themselves as Catholic,” to begin to “act accordingly, Zenit reports.

Senator Joseph Biden, Senator Barack Obama’s running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket, who appeared on the NBC Meet the Press program last Sunday “compounded the problem” with his explanation of when life begins, according to the bishops.

The senator said that although he knows “when [life] begins for me,” he claimed it to be fundamentally a “personal and private issue.”

Even though as a Catholic he is “prepared to accept the teachings of my Church,” the senator said that in a pluralistic society it would be “inappropriate” to “impose that judgment on everyone else.”

Interesting article on Condom and AIDS.

Thailand and the Philippines started seeing AIDS cases in the same year: 1984. That year, Thailand launched its “100% Condom Use Program” that saw condom vending machines in legal brothels, supermarkets, bars and most public places. The Philippines, however, resisted the imposition of condoms the following year and turned to promotion of abstinence.

In 1999 the UNAIDS reported 755,000 total confirmed cases of HIV infection in Thailand with 65,000 dead of the disease. That same year, in the Philippines, the total number of HIV cases was only 1,005. The disease had killed only 225 people. Full article here.

Bel Air, MD - All charges have been dropped against the eighteen pro-lifers who were unjustly arrested on August 1, 2008, during the Maryland Face the Truth Tour (see: ).
Harford County’s State Attorney Joe Cassilly dismissed the charges earlier this week against eight adults and ten teenagers, who had been arrested without warning during a peaceful public pro-life testimony in Bel Air, Maryland, during the last stop on a tour sponsored by Defend Life.

While none of those taken into custody were told why they were being arrested, they were later charged with loitering, failure to obey a lawful order, and disorderly conduct.

“This decision by the State of Maryland to drop the charges shows that our side of the story was the true story,” said Defend Life Director Jack Ames, who was among those arrested. “There were no traffic jams. There were no people running in and out of traffic. There was no refusal to disperse. They plainly and simply violated our First Amendment rights!”

Former Abortionist Bernard Nathanson Exposes Lies of American Pro-Abortion Movement
“We were guilty of massive deception” says Nathanson about abortion industry
By Tim Waggoner  From: http://www.lifesitenews.com

TORONTO, ON, July 29, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On July 9, 2008, CFRB talk show host, Spider Jones, interviewed former abortionist Dr. Bernard Nathanson about his past involvement in the abortion movement and his conversion to the pro-life viewpoint.

At one time Nathanson was deeply entrenched in the American pro-abortion movement, having co-founded the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and overseen 75,000 abortions as director of an abortion clinic. During the CFRB program Nathanson recalled the deceitful and dishonest tactics that he and NARAL relied upon to push for the legalization and acceptance of abortion.

“We claimed that between five and ten thousand women a year died of botched abortions,” he said. “The actual figure was closer to 200 to 300 and we also claimed that there were a million illegal abortions a year in the United States and the actual figure was close to 200,000. So, we were guilty of massive deception.”

“I mean as a founding member and chairman of the medical committee, I accepted the figures which came from a biostatistician named Christopher Tietze and he and his wife passed along these figures to us at NARAL. We were in no position to validate them or not, so we accepted them in the interests of higher standards, or at least higher objectives,” he explained.

Nathanson’s conversion to the pro-life movement was sparked by the advent of the ultrasound machine in the early 1970s.  He related how his heart was moved to realize that a fetus is in fact a human being after he watched an unborn baby recoil from a vacuum abortion device before being sucked from its mother’s womb.

Here is an interesting article that I find to be reasonable and I do admire the writer who humbly admits knowing so little of the Catechism of the Church and yet was able to come up with an article that gives a much clearer view of what the Church stands for. i hope this brings understanding to what the Church is saying about contraception and why does the Church opposes it. -Reynor

Contraception and abortion
A LAW EACH DAY (Keeps Trouble Away) By Jose C. Sison
Friday, August 1, 2008

The debate on the population control bills is getting uglier. The proponents of the measures and their supporters continue to wear blinders and refuse to see the real issues. Or they purposely go around them to show the alleged fallacy of the Catholic Church stand even to the extent of sowing dissension between the clergy and the laity.

There is no quarrel that the Reproductive Health Bill does not legalize abortion. The Church does not oppose the bill because it supposedly legalizes abortion. The Church opposes the bill because it makes available the use of any and all forms of artificial contraceptives.

In its common connotation, contraceptive is any device or substance that inhibits or prevents fertilization or the fusion of the sperm or male cell with the female ovum to form a new individual. In essence it controls birth artificially or it interferes with the natural process of bringing human life into this world after a sexual intercourse between man and a woman. This is where the first moral issue arises.

The moral issue here is whether a man and a woman should engage in sexual intercourse merely for sexual pleasure or mainly for procreation which is the means of cooperating with God in creating another human being. The Church stand from my little knowledge of Catechism is that sexual intercourse is a marital act that has two functions: the biological or procreative function and the spiritual or unitive function. These two aspects of the marital act cannot be separated. If one deliberately nullifies the life oriented process of the conjugal act, one destroys its essential power to signify union.

Thus the Catechism states that “Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes” (2351). “Any act of contraception, be it by pills, condoms, withdrawal, or ligation is always wrong, and if this is done with full knowledge and full consent, it is always a mortal sin. Every marriage act must be open to the transmission of human life” (2366).

Dear Pro-life Friends,

As you may be aware, American Life League has been covering a scandal in Richmond, VA where four employees of a Catholic Charities actually helped a teenaged Guatemalan immigrant obtain an abortion.  What is so terrible about this is that Bishop DiLorenzo actually knew about the abortion that was to take place the following morning, and did nothing to prevent it.  Even worse is that it took at least 3 months before these employees were fired.  And as if those weren’t enough, the same employees helped the girl implant a birth control device several months before.  Who knew about that, and why didn’t it come out until now that this was done?

There are so many questions surrounding this incident that American Life League asked the Commonwealth Attorney to step in and conduct an investigation.  Given that this looks so much like a cover-up, we wonder if this has happened before at this or even other Catholic Charities.

My friends, I am sending you some news clips on this and ask you to cover this on your blogs:

If people like this are not exposed, then more and more pro-life champions like Catholic Charities will be infiltrated by the Culture of Death … rotting them from the inside out .. until there is no one left.  We have to expose this monstrosity to ensure that this never happens again.

Thank you all for everything you do for the babies!

WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) – Reports are circulating, in circles which are intensely attuned to the continued warming of relations between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, of a statement and proposal allegedly made by Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople.

If they are confirmed, it may signal a major move toward communion between Eastern Catholics and their Orthodox Brethren. It may also open the path to dialogue on communion between the Churches even wider.

The Religious Information Service of the Ukraine, associated with the Ukranian Catholic University, was cited as one source for the articles. Another was a German Ecumenical Journal named after the great Bishops Cyril and Methodius.

Both of these sources allege that the Orthodox Patriarch made an unusual gesture toward Eastern Catholic Churches which are in union with Rome, proposing that the members of those Churches somehow “return to Orthodoxy without breaking unity with Rome”.     Continue reading here.

On a visit to the Philippines, Townsville Bishop Michael Putney has said Australia’s Catholic bishops are ready to assist Filipino bishops in their campaign against Australian-controlled mining operations.

The Philippines Sun-Star reports Filipino bishops have found an ally in Australia in their bid to stop mining activities operated by Australian firms in the country.

The paper quotes Bishop Michael Putney as saying Australia’s bishops are willing to help if asked by the Filipino prelates.  Continue reading here.
