Mary’s Gift to Us

Excitement is building up! In a few days we shall celebrate the Nativity of the Lord. It is a happy and holy time of the year.
The story of God’s angel proclaiming the Lord’s favor on Mary gives us all a great deal to ponder this Advent. But we are called to do more than ponder. We are called to bring this glad tidings of Jesus birth and to proclaim the Good News of Salvation like Mary giving flesh to God’s hope, God’s peace, God’s justice, and God’s love to the world. Because of the Incarnation, nothing is beyond God’s reach.
Mary gives us the example on how to answer the call from God. She was receptive, reflective and responsive.
As Christmas draws near, Mary reminds us that the best Christmas (and in fact the only Christmas!) is that Christ be born not in the little town of Bethlehem but in the inner sanctuary of our hearts. Like Mary let us be open to receive God’s Word. Let us spend time reflecting on how God is working in us and through us and we respond with generous hearts.
Surrendering to God, making the act of trust or abandonment into the hands of God, is not easy. It means letting go — and letting God come in.
We continue to wait and be watchful of the Lord’s coming.
The Blessed Mary showed us the example. She always leads is to Jesus and to God.
