“Schönborn attacks Sodano and urges reform” says the headline from The Tablet article, that came out last 8th of May, written by Christa Pongratz-Lippitt. Cardinal Schönborn, as implied by the article, points his finger to Cardinal Sodano putting the blame on him for dismissing media reports of the sexual abuse scandal. And that Cardinal Schonborn is calling for a reconsideration of the Church’s stand on marriage and homosexuality.
Here, yet again, another misleading headline and article. Myself being a big admirer of Cardinal Schönborn and the Dominicans (OP), I couldn’t help but frown upon the article. I can not simply give in to believing that the Cardinal will be attacking another bishop and that he is now questioning the teaching of the Church. There has to be an explanation and as it turns out media has done it again.
It was not an attack but a criticism and the reform is not about changing the teachings of the Church but a call for better and effective ways not only to clarify but to confirm the verity of the teachings of the Church.
